Written by consumers for consumers / Comprehensive portal with all information available at a glance.

  1. What role does the consumer portal play in Europe?

Ciao ranks among Europe’s favourite comparison shopping and consumer portals*.

  1. In which countries does Ciao have existing shopping sites?

In the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, Ciao has been in a leading position for over seven years now (see Comscore). Ciao has been present and expanding in the Netherlands since late 2005 and in Sweden since mid-year 2007.

  1. What measures are taken to spot biased contributions?

Ciao operates what we call a ‘Self-Sustaining Community”. Community members can evaluate all contributions, which are then sorted on the website according to their ‘usefulness’ as assessed by members. In addition, we have made it easy for any user (not only community members) to report to us any contributions which appear biased. Ciao provides a contact form allowing users to quickly identify biased contributions. Our experience has shown that self-regulation within the community is very reliable. Nevertheless, we are a consumer portal and each consumer should have the chance to evaluate the opinions of other consumers for themselves, depending on which reports and product information have personally proved helpful and important to them when searching for a product

  1. What happens when moderators spot biased contributions?

Our Community Support department checks all reports it receives and promptly deletes contributions that constitute illicit, biased contributions.

  1. How do you use Web 2.0?

Ciao has been what journalists today would call a Web 2.0 portal – from consumers for consumers – from its very inception in 1999. Users create not only product reviews, but also video reports about their personal experience that significantly influence consumers’ decisions

  1. How many locations do you have?

Ciao operates websites in seven core European markets: Great Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden.
