Brits bare all on the beach
02.06.2010
London, 2nd June: Europe’s leading shopping community Ciao[1] is predicting an upsurge of tiny beachwear in Britain this summer, based on a massive increase in searches[2] among its UK community.
As the sun came out, ciao.co.uk saw more than a 100% increase in searches for bikinis this year, after analysing searches in January to May 2009 vs. the same period in 2010. Speedos also received five times as many searches as in the same time last year, finding that it may not just be girls going for the risqué look this summer!
The good news is we won’t be getting an eyeful on Britain’s beaches – the site was also inundated with searches for bikini line hair removal products. A total of one in ten swimwear searches were conducted by Brits looking to ‘trim back’ ahead of the summer season.
It also found that Brits still love the celebrity fake tan look of Katie Price and Victoria Beckham, with self-tan products proving as popular as ever. Ciao UK experienced a slight increase in fake tanning searches of 5% over last year and uncovered the nation’s favourite self-tan brands for 2010.
Most popular fake tan brands of 2010 according to Ciao UK:
• Fake Bake
• St Tropez
• L’Oréal
• Ambre Solaire
• Stila
Tom Hyde, Team Leader Ciao E-Commerce UK at Microsoft, comments: “Everyone wants to look their best on the beach and clearly Brits have never been prouder to get their kit off. We’ve buffed ourselves up so that we’re tanned and smooth from top to toe and we’re celebrating by looking for the tightest, tiniest and most revealing swimwear out there. People have said that Brits have no fashion sense - but this summer, we’ll be showing them how good we can look!”
